JULIETTE’S GRADE 4 PROGRESS

Well, Jules has been doing fine. There is nothing exciting to tell at the moment really. She consistently gets 80% or more for her spelling tests. Her maths is going perfectly, we’re still doing Calculator skills, but will be finished tomorrow.

She’s enjoyed this part of the curriculum, though I’ve found it boring, many cups of coffee for me!! Bear in mind before I had Jules, I was Group Accountant of Trust company and swore blind I would never ever touch a calculator again in my life!!! (famous last words). I love maths, but not using a calculator for adding etc. I know, I know, the curriculum is for Jules not me.

We’ve done a bit of Geography, direction mapwork etc. Then we did Technology. That we all enjoyed. It was about which tools to use for which tasks. We unpacked Dads’ tools and tried them out. I never realised how difficult it was to saw a thin piece of wood. More respect for Dad and his DIY from now on!

That’s about it, I’m about to order a handwriting pack from Clonard as Jules hates cursive with a passion! Her normal writing is so neat and precise, but she must give cursive a good try. Cursive we’ll muddle along with for now!

Her afrikaans is going well as well. We’ve got ahead with that quite well as we learn new words together. She’s loving it. I put together her body parts in afrikaans to the song, head, shoulders knees and toes. After complaining that she wasn’t getting out of her chair, she soon got involved, and it was the source of much laughter and glee, as we messed up so completely with the afrikaans words. But you can ask her any of her body parts in Afrikaans and she can tell you without a moments hesitation, so it obviously worked.

I try and speak to her as much as she’ll allow in Afrikaans. She doesn’t mind for a while, and then some days she’ll say to me, “Stop that now!” OOOKKKAAAY then I stop.

We’re not taking our full 3 week holiday this term as we need to get caught up a bit. We’ve been doing renovations, more on that later, and weren’t able to homeschool with the sound of circular saws et al. We’re taking a bliss filled week though which I can’t wait for!! I’m knackered.

Blessings to you as you near the end of our first term,

Susanxx
