Homeschool Bakers Day

Hi everyone! Today was good, StJohn did a bit of counting in his workbook and making Fathers Day Cards. Juliette, carried on with her Phonics, still the oooo sound, today it was oo, as in noodle. Then we tackled the concept of rows and columns. And once this was cleared up then were able to do our story sums.

I love story sums. I find the way they work the brain marvellous. You can’t automatically put in an answer. You need to constantly question, “what, how many, etc?” It is the process that I enjoy. I feel it stretches Juliettes’ mind. I love my kids to question. An example of a story sum today was “Gloria buys 3 loaves of bread, she pays R15 for all of them, how much would 1 loaf cost?”

That was it for the “hard work” for the day. Then we did BAKERS DAY. Oooh we love it. We made Funky Fruity Muffins. Straight out of our “Conquering Bakers Day” book. If you go to our website, www.ourhomeschooljourney.co.za and click on Baking Time, you’ll see how we do it. The Baking Fairy plays a big part in our day! Really it’s worth a read! I won’t go into the in’s and out’s here as it is looong.

Needless to say we ate too many muffins today. After we’d cleaned up our baking things, we packed a picnic lunch, including our muffins, and went to the park. Jules and Sin, put on backpacks, with all their provisions in them and went on an expedition in between the trees and climbing equipment. I got to sit on a blanket and dream.

While we were there another Mom arrived with her little boy, and these 2 proceeded to try and cut small branches off one of the Pine trees with a small saw. For no reason, just to chop and discard. Peculiar behaviour! Strange! Juliette, took one look at this and said to me, I’m going to tell them. Before I had a chance to actually realise what she meant. She went over to this person and said, “Please stop that, you’re hurting the tree.” The poor woman’s mouth dropped open, and she apologised and told her son to stop as well! I was so proud of Juliette, she wasn’t in the least shy or afraid! Wow!

On our walk home, Jules said to me, “I felt so good, I saved a tree from getting hurt today, and I wasn’t scared to tell that lady.”

Well this was a week that ended on a high note! Thanks for sharing this first Blogging week with us, I’ve loved it, I hope you have as well.

Come back and visit next week, or go to our site to see how we really get down and do Homeschool! Have a stunning weekend, Relax and Play hard!

Love, Sue
