OUR 2ND DAY BACK AT SCHOOL
Hi Everyone
Okay today was way better then yesterday. Thank heavens for that! Juliette did a few new spelling words, english oral comprehension, which she enjoyed again. Then we did a maths worksheet (Grade 4) which took her under 5 minutes and she handed it to me and said, “That was too easy.” Okay so maths is going okay and english is cooking. Then we tackled our 2nd language Afrikaans. We revised the words/vocab we’d learnt last year, which 90% was still in her head. Yippee! But boy to we have a long way to go on this subject. It’s my fault completely….I left Afrikaans because Jules didn’t really enjoy it, but now we really have to knuckle down and learn it. So we’re chatting in Afrikaans in a limited way at home, which I hope will help.
Blog post interrupted there for a minute. Jules had “homework” 1. to learn her maths vocab, and 2. a few new spelling words. Daddy tests her when he gets home and when she gets the answer wrong (it’s oral) then he rolls off the couch gasping in shock, which sends her into the most incredibe giggles. It’s taken away her fear of getting things wrong.
She just came upstairs to tell me she was finished, which it turns out wasn’t quite right, so she’s off to revise a bit more. It seems to be really important this year for her to learn to work on her own without me holding her hand, so I’ve given her “homework” tasks, really just work alone activities to try and get this idea going.
StJohn did a new letter today, H, which we did in the Waldorf way. H today was Henry the horse, who wears a hat and is a hero. He saved the day in Letterland as he helped King Kyle, Lolly the Leopard, Marvellous Monkey and Naughty Neville cross a river. StJohn loved it, every second of it, and he’s drawn the most beautiful pic. I’m going to try and take a photgraph of it and post it tomorrow. The horse was stunning! So bright and colourful.
Other then that it was a pretty normal homeschool Mom’s kind of day, shopping, cleaning, emailing, feeding – kids dog, cats, and now I have to go and take the peanut butter cookie dough out of the fridge to bake quickly, as I completely forgot it was in there!
See you tomorrow, hope school goes well if it’s your first day tomorrow.
Love Sue.
