HOMESCHOOL HOLIDAY
Hi Everyone,
It’s Holiday time here in Johannesburg. Though we’re not taking a set Holiday, we are Homeschooling in a more relaxed and less structured way. I found a great site for the kids, that showed them all the planets, all 8 of them. Yes there were 9 and the textbooks still tell us 9. But apparently there has been a “problem” with Pluto, so it is no longer a planet. Long story.
This is one of the things I was discussing in an article I wrote last week. The “Homeschool is evil” crowd, like us to believe that we can’t homeschool because we’re not teachers.
My argument, is that I may not have prior knowledge of a subject. But I see this as a Pro of Homeschooling, not a Con. Before I attempt a lesson with my kids, I make sure that I research the subject from various angles. Getting them the most up to date information! No age old textbooks for us. We use the library, and online Homeschool Resources!
It’s become a family joke, when the kids ask a question, and John and I don’t know, they roar, “Lets Google it!”
Again here comes the family bonding, we trot off to the computer together and find what we need. Discussing all the time.
I love Homeschooling, what more can I say.
