HOMESCHOOL GEOGRAPHY REVISION
Hi Everyone, I’ve been terrible! I haven’t posted for 2 days. There was so much happening, I just never got around to it. What have we been doing?
Well Jules has been revising her first Geography lesson. Because we’re homeschooling, both her and StJohn, he likes nothing better than to sit in on her lesson. So what happens is he absorbs information as we go.
;
A few of the province names here in SA are quite difficult to pronounce, and we’ve spent the past 2 days going over them. Words like Mpumalanga(mpoomalunga) were being pronounced impawpaw, Now both of them found this hysterically funny, and I think because of this they’ve found it easier to remember where each province is, they can name the provinces around mpawpaw, as they love saying the word. They’ll laugh as say Kwazulu Natal is next to Mpawpaw and they fall about laughing. How they remember it is immaterial to me, as long as it goes in, with love and gentleness. I’m not prepared to force information in, this isn’t my Style of Homeschooling.
At the end of the day, she now has a good understanding of South Africa, where they live, where their family and friends live. It’s fantastic!
I’ve discussed on the Pro’s and Con’s of Homeschooling webpage the fact they I feel it’s a positive that I’m not a teacher and often don’t have a prior knowledge of a subject. It means that my kids, get the latest information. This is important in learning the Geography of our country. It’s quite different to how it was 10 years ago!
Anyway the first Geography lessons went down brilliantly and I’m looking forward to discovering more about our planet and it’s people as we get further along on our Homeschool Journey.
Love S. xx
PS. Remember the Biology Bean experiment? Well I had a bit of a bad feeling about it from the start, remember 1 bean was not watered, but allowed light. One bean was allowed light air and water, this was the Lucky Bean and was supposed to be the one that grew brilliantly. In so doing it proved that we as humans need light, air and water! And there was the unlucky bean which got water, air and NO light! Well what do you know, this is the bean they grew amazingly, we have roots and leaves. The Lucky bean rotted and started to smell. That was it.
Well Juliete couldn’t stop laughing, as she explained to me slowly, as though I couldn’t quite get the information….”you see we don’t need light,mmmm”. With a twinkle in her eye, and then roared with laughter again.
I guess thats another joy of Homeschooling, things certainly don’t go as planned, but by sharing in and see the funny side, the end result is not lost. She tells me she understands we do need light, air and water. And then giggles disgustingly!
